All About Jaene Booth Art

West Yorkshire based artist, Jaene Booth, transitioned her art practice from pastime to part-time following retirement as a police officer in 2015 and then to full-time during the COVID lockdown of 2020.

Though predominantly self-taught, Jaene studied in her early life under renowned Yorkshire landscape artist Peter Brook and was a member of the Art Academy at Redbrick Mill, Batley run by Tom Wood. In December 2021 the Academy was forced to close and the Redbrick Artists along with Jaene, are now studio based at the Creative Scene Hub in Dewsbury.

An ardent traveller, Jaene has a yen for roaming in search of local culture, wildlife watching and the natural environment. Creating art “always from the heart” she seeks to share with others the beauty and diversity of the world she has seen. It is her goal, as an artist, to encourage the closer examination of seemingly ordinary scenes, events and objects.

Jaene paints exploratively  without the restrictions of a particular style or theme, to produce fine, detailed art, portraiture, and still life, as well as more contemporary abstract representations. She is constantly experimenting with new techniques as a means of developing her creative expression.

Using a variety of mediums including acrylics, inks and print, Jaene adapts her approach intuitively according to the subject and mood she wants to portray. Her love of the outdoors has lead to a preference for working en plain air so as to capture the atmosphere and feelings of a place or subject. Utilising sketches and paintings made on site as references, together with photographs, to further develop the painting in her studio.

Jaene describes how visiting the Llyn Peninsula for the first time in 2020 was a pivotal time in her artistic career. Captivated by the rugged unspoilt landscape, the energy of the sea and natural light she has since made painting Llyn coastal scenery a principal theme of her work.
